Some of our World Family Foundation sponsors requested a connection with Israel something universal for all the needy children there. In response, WFF began to partner with a wonderful school that embraces children from Christian, Palestinian and Jewish backgrounds on an equal basis. This school is aptly called Oasis of Peace Primary School - Neve Shalom in Hebrew, and Wahat Al-Salam in Arabic.
Oasis of Peace was begun as a community in the 1970’s with Jewish, Christian, and Palestinian families living together in harmony. The community teaches understanding, mutual respect and trust, and is a model for peaceful coexistence where all traditions and cultures are valued and honored through dialogue and the sharing of the responsibilities of daily life.
The Oasis of Peace Primary School provides bilingual and multicultural education to Jewish, Palestinian and Christian children. It serves more than 300 children from the local community and 30 nearby towns within Israel. Every classroom is staffed by both a Jewish and a Palestinian teacher. In order to further mutual respect, all students study both Hebrew and Arabic languages. The school also supports dialogue and understanding by offering a strong enrichment program of classes in theater, music, and the visual arts. They celebrate all the religious holidays, such as Ramadan, Christmas, and Hanukah. See Photos
There are many poor children in Israel living on kibutzim or in Palestinian slums, whose parents desperately want their children to attend Oasis of Peace. They understand the value of this extraordinary education, but they are unable to afford the tuition. That is where the partnership between World Family Foundation and Oasis of Peace Primary School comes in. The families pay a portion of the tuition, Oasis of Peace grants scholarships for part, and WFF sponsorships pay for another portion, making it possible for these children to attend the school. The education they receive at this extraordinary school can help to transform the futures of these children and of Israel, and serve as a beacon of hope on the path to peace in the Middle East.
